Pad-Mounted and Pole-Mounted Transformers for Canadian Project

Dingxin Electric supplied efficient pad-mounted and pole-mounted transformers for a Canadian distribution project, improving safety, reliability and installation efficiency.

Dingxin Electric supplied single-phase pad-mounted and pole-mounted distribution transformers for a Canadian utility project. The customer needed two installation options to serve residential communities, rural networks and light commercial loads under different site conditions.

Pole-mounted transformers were selected for overhead distribution areas where compact installation and economical deployment were important. Pad-mounted transformers were used in underground distribution networks and locations requiring secure, ground-level equipment with convenient access for authorized personnel.

Customer Challenges

The customer needed to solve several practical problems:

Dingxin Electric Solution

Dingxin Electric reviewed the customer’s load requirements, primary and secondary voltages, installation environments and protection philosophy, then provided a coordinated transformer package.

Single-Phase Pole-Mounted Transformers

Dingxin Electric’s pole-mounted transformer range is available in the following configurations:

For remote and rural locations, the CSP design offered an especially practical solution. It integrates a directly connected primary surge arrester, an internal primary fuse and a secondary circuit breaker. This reduced the need for separately mounted protective devices, simplified field installation and lowered the customer’s installation cost.

Key features included high- and low-voltage terminals suitable for aluminum or copper conductors, porcelain high-voltage bushings resistant to corona, grounding provisions, an automatic pressure-relief device, oil-level marking and a corrosion-resistant cover band.

Single-Phase Pad-Mounted Transformers

For underground distribution areas, Dingxin Electric supplied lockable, tamper-resistant pad-mounted transformers. Their compartmentalized enclosure protects energized components and supports safe installation near residential and commercial users.

Available ratings include 15, 25, 37.5, 50, 75, 100 and 167 kVA. Typical primary voltages include 34,500/19,920 V, 13,800/7,957 V, 13,200/7,620 V and 12,470/7,200 V, with other voltage combinations available. Secondary options include 120/240 V, 240/480 V, 347 V and 600 V.

Outdoor Durability and Cold-Climate Reliability

The transformer tanks and enclosures were designed for outdoor service with durable coating systems and corrosion-resistant components. Heavy-duty lifting lugs and mounting brackets simplified transportation and installation, while recessed tank-bottom construction helped protect pole-mounted units when moved over uneven surfaces.

Depending on the project requirements, the transformers can use electrical-grade mineral oil or fire-resistant natural ester fluid. Components and insulating systems can also be customized for low-temperature Canadian service.

Energy-Efficient Design

The magnetic cores and windings were optimized to reduce no-load and load losses. For the pad-mounted series shown, typical no-load losses range from 50 W to 350 W, while on-load losses range from 195 W to 1,410 W, depending on capacity.

Final efficiency and guaranteed loss values are confirmed according to the ordered rating and applicable Canadian project requirements.

How the Solution Addressed the Customer’s Needs

The coordinated product package allowed the customer to use one supplier for two distribution methods. Pole-mounted units provided an economical solution for overhead rural feeders, while pad-mounted units offered safer and more discreet equipment for underground residential networks.

The CSP configuration reduced externally mounted components and field wiring. Weather-resistant construction improved outdoor reliability, and the low-loss design helped reduce lifecycle energy costs. Standardized accessories and clear equipment identification also simplified inspection and maintenance.

Conclusion

The Canadian project demonstrates Dingxin Electric’s ability to supply coordinated pad-mounted and pole-mounted transformer solutions for utilities, residential developments, rural networks and light commercial applications.
